The Arc

STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way is the only Fairfield County member organization of The Arc of the United States. The Arc is the largest national community-based organization advocating for and with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and serving them and their families. The Arc works tirelessly to uphold their vision that every individual and family living with I/DD in the United States has access to the information, advocacy, and skills they need to support their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.With hundreds of state and local chapters across the country, The Arc’s chapter network is on the frontlines from first breath to last to ensure that people with I/DD have the support and services they need to be fully engaged in their communities.

The Arc CT

STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way is the only Fairfield County member organization of The Arc of Connecticut. The Arc promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supports their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.

The Arc is the largest national community-based organization advocating for and serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. They encompass all ages and all spectrums from autism, Down syndrome, Fragile X and various other developmental disabilities.

With more than 140,000 members and nearly 700 state and local chapters nationwide, The Arc is on the front lines to ensure that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families have the support they need to be members of the community.

CT Department of Developmental Services

STAR, Inc, Lighting the Way participates in a statewide system, called the Department of Developmental Services (DDS), which provides support and services to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities who reside in family homes, independently, in state-operated facilities, in licensed “community training homes” and in licensed/certified “community living arrangements.” Since 1987, most services and supports provided by DDS have been subject to federal reimbursement under Home and Community Based Waivers (Medicaid) which are approved by the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS).

STAR is proud of its collaborative partnership with the CT Department of Developmental Services. More information about these services and eligibility can be found on their website.
