STAR provides families with flexible supports of their choosing at times that they need them in order to assist their children with their roles, activities and responsibilities within the family. Formal programs and professional services, as well as the informal support available from extended family, friends, neighbors and community members are utilized. Parent education and training is also provided.

JumpSTARS

Enrich, Support and Include

JumpSTARs is a family support program to promote well-being and create a family support network for parents, caregivers, relatives, and siblings of individuals of all ages who are impacted by intellectual and developmental disabilities.

JumpSTARs provides a series of activities each month that are educational, recreational and social. Events will be free and open to the public on a first come basis depending on venue capacity.

Sports Buddies

Enhance social, physical, and emotional well-being through fun-filled sports experience

Sports Buddies is a weekly recreational program that offers this experience for kids and young adults with
special needs. It is designed to enhance their social, physical, and emotional well-being through a
fun-filled sports experience with their peers. Participants of all ability levels are paired with youth
and adult volunteers (“buddies”) to learn basic sport skills, improve physical conditioning,
experience team dynamics, build confidence and self-esteem… and have FUN!

Classes are Saturdays from 9:00 – 10:00 AM. Fall, Spring and Winter Sessions available. Fall/Spring sessions meet at South Elementary School in New Canaan on the blacktop. Winter session meets at New Canaan High School Aux Gym. Fall Session runs from September- November; Winter Session runs Dec. – March; Spring session runs April- June. Cost is $150.

Advocacy, Case Management and Transportation Services

All participants of STAR programs receive coordinated case management, social services and advocacy.
